Arab
tourism ministers name Lebanon tourism
destination for 2007
BEIRUT,
Lebanon -- The Arab tourism ministerial
council, at the end of its meeting on
Friday, named the Lebanese capital Beirut as
the destination of Arab tourism for 2007
with the aim of shoring up Lebanon's economy
on the aftermath of last summer's Israeli
aggression.
The council, which kicked off its 10th
session Thursday, lauded the Lebanese
Tourism Misemnistry's vision to boost the
sector's activities by holding a media forum
that included inars on culture and tourism
in Lebanon. The forum will be held on June
22, 2007.
The meeting underlined the need to
promote inter-Arab tourism and achieve
tourism integration as a step toward full
economic integration between Arab states.
The ministers also called for the
promotion of joint tourism activities, such
as Arab festivals, and recommended the
unification of hotel charges and transport
facilities.
In that regard, a work team grouping
Kuwait, Egypt, Iraq, the United Arab
Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Libya,
Sudan and Palestine will present a
development program for pan-Arab tourism
products.
It also approved the restructuring of the
tourism technical committee into an
executive office that included Sudan, Saudi
Arabia, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Bahrain and
the Emirates in its membership.
Kuwaiti Minister of Commerce and Industry
Falah Al-Hajri headed his country's
delegation to the meeting, and Kuwait had
presented a paper on how to stimulate and
spur pan-Arab tourism.
The next ministerial meeting will be held
in Jordan on June 18-19, 2008. |
