Power of Attorney

  • Power of Attorneys (POA) can be done in person at the Embassy or sent by mail to the Embassy to be legalized (for those done before a US Notary Public and authenticated at the State and then at the State Department in Washington D.C) if all the requierments are fulfilled.
  • Please note that it's highly recommended that Lebanese citizens who wish to sign a POA related to Real Estate/properties  in Lebanon, or a general POA including Real Estate/properties in Lebanon, do it in Person at the Embassy and not before a US Notary Public. For those in Texas, please contact the Honorary Consulate of Lebanon in Houston-Texas (phone: 713268-1640) in order to sign it there.

  • For those who wish to do a POA before a U.S Notary public, you have to contact the Embassy first (Mrs.Soukaiba Araji

In Person Power of Attorney

General Power of Attorney done in person at the Embassy

  • Call the Embassy for an appointment. Please contact directly Mrs. Sanaa Zeinab by Phone at (202) 939-6318 or Email: SZEINAB@lebanonembassyus.org .
  • we need the ID of the applicant (Lebanese ID recommended).
  • a copy of the recipient's ID (Lebanese ID recommended).
  • The applicant should come in person to the Embassy with his original Lebanese ID to sign the general power of attorney. Applicants over 70 years of age are kindly requested to submit, along with the required documents, a certificate of good mental health to be issued by their physician.
  • A money order in the amount of $50.00 per signature per applicant payable to the Embassy of Lebanon.

Special Power of Attorney done in person at the Embassy

  • we need the ID of the applicant (Lebanese ID recommended).
  • a copy of the recipient' ID (Lebanese ID recommended).
  • The applicant is required to come in person to the Embassy with his Lebanese ID to sign the special power of attorney. Applicants over 70 years of age are kindly requested to submit, along with the required documents, a certificate of good mental health to be issued by their physician.
  • A money order in the amount of $25.00 per signature, per applicant to be made payable to the Embassy of Lebanon.
  • For Real Estate matters: a copy of the deed of property or a registry certificate (ifada ikaryah) must be presented.
  • For cars: A copy of the car registration record should be presented.
  • For bank accounts: The bank address and account number should be provided.
  • For divorces: A copy of marriage certificate or family civil record should be provided.
  • For Maids/Housekeepers: A copy of the passport of the housekeeper is required.

By Mail Power of Attorney

The Embassy of Lebanon legalizes the Power of Attorneys done before a notary public and authenticated by Secretary of State and State Department if all requirements are fulfilled.

Legalization of Signature (General Power of Attorney) by mail

  • All Power of Attorneys received by mail (Special and General) composed of more than one page MUST include the signature of the applicant and the seal and signature of the Notary Public on each and every page of the Power of Attorney. Please note that all POA should be typed and in English and signed in blue ink. Copy of POA can not be legalized at the Embassy
  • All Power of Attorneys should include the full identity of both applicant and recipient: First and Last name, Father's name, Mother's name, Place and Date of Birth, Nationality, american and Lebanese I.D. or passport number and date of issuance.All Power of Attorneys should include the complete address and phone number of the applicant
  • All Power of Attorneys should include:Name and Signature of two witnesses with their ID/passport number and date of birth ( The witnesses must not be relatives of the applicant or recipient).
  • The POA should be Notarized by a Notary Public ( it must include the following statement on the same page signed by the applicant and the two witnesses: "Before me personally appeared Mr./Ms..... holding ID/passport number nb...... in the presence of the witness Mr./Ms.. ...... holding ID/passport number nb......and the witness Mr./Ms.. ...... holding ID/passport number nb....., and signed the above document, this day .../.../... ". the statment should be followed by the signature and seal of the Notary Public, and the expiration date of his commission.)
  • The POA should be Authenticated by the Secretary of State and then by the State Department in Washington, DC.
  • kindly submit with the authenticated Power of Attorney, a photocopy of it.
  • kindly submit a notarized Copy of the witnesses ID's, a notarized copy of the applicant's ID and a copy of the recipient's ID (For Lebanese, a copy of Lebanese ID is also required).
  • Applicants over 70 years of age are kindly requested to submit, along with the required documents, a certificate of good mental health to be issued by their physician..
  • Any POA received by mail without the mentionned requierments will be sent back to the sender.

  • Regarding the sale of property, the applicant must include a copy of the deed of trust. The number and location of the property also needs to be mentioned clearly in the power of attorney.
